The Art of Painter
Helen Yancy,

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn specialized Photoshop and Painter techniques from digital art guru Helen Yancy. This exceptional digital artwork class will take place at Ann Monteith’s Deep Creek Lake vacation home and studio in the mountains of Western Maryland on October 29 - November 1, 2011. The class begins on Friday, October 29 at 9:00 A.M. (arrive at 8:30 A.M. to set up your computer) and concludes on Monday, November 1 at 1:00 P.M.

At this dynamic workshop, you will learn digital artwork methods for portrait retouching, enhancement, and new products—such as photographic watercolors, image panels, and note cards—products that will increase your studio income. Your electronic creativity will soar as you master digital brushes, watercolors, pastels, and natural media paints. Working first in Photoshop to retouch and enhance for a pure but natural look, the class will then progress into the world of Corel Painter, and now Painter XI – the latest version (check Corel’s website for updates).

Attendees at this class will receive a written Photoshop/Painter tutorial that will be invaluable as a class resource and also for reference as you develop your skills once you return home.

A working knowledge of Photoshop tools is ESSENTIAL in order to benefit from this workshop; however no previous experience with Painter is required. The class will briefly review Photoshop tools and layers before proceeding with workshop lessons. If you wish to review Photoshop before you come, Helen suggests that you purchase the Photoshop edition of “Classroom in a Book” through your local computer store.

There is no more recognized name in digital artwork education than Helen Yancy. As an artist and photographer deeply involved with digital technology after a long and honored history with traditional methods, Helen holds every professional degree PPA bestows, as well as a host of honors and awards from other organizations.

Helen’s class is directed toward fine portraiture rather than publishing, with a focus on making exceptional images that were not possible or cost effective through traditional media. You will explore some of the areas that were previously the domain of the airbrush, and the oils, pencils and dyes of traditional photographic artists. This class will teach artistic techniques that will enable you to use digital tools to their best advantage in an artistic manner. You will be creating digital watercolors and other works of art as never before!

Workshop equipment requirements are: Mac or PC, which is loaded with:
~ Photoshop CS2 or later - CS3 recommended
~ Painter XI (a free trial download is available from Corel or from Helen)
~ At least a GIG Ram. Remember Photoshop and Painter are memory grabbers - dedicate 80% of your memory (after the memory needed for the operating system) to each program. We will not have both programs open at the same time, so it will work well.
~ CD drive and media for file storage/transfer
~ Plenty of clear hard drive space
~ Pen tool with the software loaded, such as the Wacom Intuos 2 or 3, 6x8 (ESSENTIAL and REQUIRED)
~ Secure extension cord/power strip for your computer and equipment.

Laptops are best for class use.

The class is limited to 11 students, and tuition is $1150. You will learn much more at this class than at a typical photographic school class because of the small class size, and you can continue to work on projects in your break time, etc. Your evenings will be free to share with other students.

To register (a $500 non-refundable deposit is required), contact Helen Yancy at (734) 207-0398 or Check Helen’s website at
